CNIPA, UKIPO Hold A Video Conference to Enhance Partnership

On November 24, Shen Changyu, Commissioner of China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), held a video conference with Tim Moss, Chief Executive of the United Kingdom Intellectual Property Office (UKIPO). The long-term partners reviewed their cooperation, discussed the details of future bilateral cooperation, and exchanged opinions on specific issues including response to COVID-19 pandemic, interaction between artificial intelligence (AI) and patent/trademark examination.

Shen introduced the latest IP developments in China, especially the revision of Chinese Patent Law and CNIPA's efforts in coping with the pandemic, enhancing IP services, safeguarding users' rights and strengthening communication and cooperation with international partners. Noting the advancing cooperation between the two offices even during the pandemic and the year 2021 being the 25th anniversary of the bilateral tie, Shen believed it is an ideal time to move the cooperation forward, benefiting more IP users and doing  the innovation and economy in the two countries.

Moss said that the current global economic development is highly dependent on IP, and Britain is also keen on developing the IP system to ensure quality protection for businesses. Thanks to the high-frequency in trade between the two countries, IP has become an important link. Riding the current momentum, the two offices will advance cooperation and reap more fruits.

Finishing their conversation, Shen Changyu and Tim Moss inked the 2021 Work Plan of the two offices, which lays out further cooperation on high-level exchanges, information sharing, and examination services.
