CNIPA-KIPO, CNIPA-JPO Heads Meetings Held Via Video Link

On November 27, Shen Changyu, Commissioner of China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), and Kim Yong Rae, Commissioner of the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) attended the 26th CNIPA-KIPO heads meeting held via video link.

Shen stressed that KIPO is an important partner of CNIPA and highly appreciated the fruitful IP cooperation in multiple fields and the in-depth cooperation under the framework of the three IP offices (China, Japan and Republic of Korea) and the IP5. During the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, CNIPA and KIPO have been keeping steady promotion of various joint projects through active communication and coordination. He wished the two offices to continuously strengthen and expand cooperative programs, elevating the cooperation to a new phase of development.

Kim said that KIPO has been in close collaboration with CNIPA thanks to concerted efforts. He wished the two sides to further deepen cooperation in various fields, contributing to the development of the global IP system.

The two offices reviewed their cooperation in patent examination, trademark, automation, IP protection and reexamination this year, shared comments on promoting Collaborative Search Pilot (CSP), trademark expert seminar and meeting between appeal boards, and discussed how to enhance exchanges in AI and the plan for future cooperation. They agreed the annual heads meeting will be held by CNIPA next year.

After the meeting, the two sides signed the Memorandum of the 26th CNIPA-KIPO Heads Meeting of the Commissioners.

On December 1, Shen shared insights on cooperation with Kasutani Toshihide, Commissioner of the Japan Patent Office (JPO) at the 27th CNIPA-JPO heads meeting. The two sides reviewed the cooperation progress this year and discussed the focus of future cooperation.

Shen indicated that JPO is CNIPA's important partner. The two offices have been working together to deepen cooperation in diverse fields and under the framework of the three IP offices and IP5, thus yielding substantial results. In addition, the cooperation projects are carried out steadily during the pandemic. He wished to reinforce exchanges to promote the bilateral cooperative relation to a higher level.

Kasutani said that JPO develops smooth cooperation with CNIPA in the fields including invention patent, industrial design, trademark and automation in 2020. He wished to move the cooperation forward based on mutual trust.

The two sides shared in-depth views on patent examiners exchange, industrial design, trademark, automation, patent reexamination, human resource development and legal system and its application and exchanged opinions on advancing the bilateral cooperative projects in the circumstances of pandemic prevention and control.

Finishing their conversation, they inked the Memorandum of the 27th CNIPA-JPO Heads Meeting of the Commissioners.
